Families Enrolling - The CATS
study is currently in its final data collection
phase and is working closely with the Practice and
Research, Advancing Collaboration study (PRAC),
another ongoing study taking place at CASRC. The
CATS study is on schedule to obtain data from roughly
80 families, including videotapes of treatment sessions
that will be coded using the Child Therapy Process
Rating System (CTPRS)
developed for this project.
Coding of Treatment Process Beginning
- The CATS study is now beginning the process of
coding treatment sessions taking place with children
and families. Multiple coders using the CTPRS, developed
and tested in Phase I of CATS, will identify and
code treatment objectives pursued and methods used
by therapists. Data will also allow for description
of the intensity with which therapists pursue objectives
and use methods and will allow for an in-depth study
of the structure of care provided.
Hiring coders - Occasionally,
CATS has openings for research assistants and/or
volunteer interns to participate in the coding process.
Individuals can participate for course credit in
school or as a part-time research assistant. Participation
can provide an invaluable opportunity to learn more
about the range of different approaches that therapists
take to working with children and families. If you
have an interest in participating in the CATS coding
process, please contact Michael
Hurlburt for further information to find out
whether the project currently has a position available.
A description of the role that coders play and the
opportunities that they have is provided in this
brief summary.
