Project Description

Traditionally, research regarding treatment techniques and strategies has focused on the development of assessment and treatment strategies designed to be communicated to therapists working in the field. More researchers are coming to understand that this has led to a less than complete understanding of how to respond to the complexities of providing services in public mental health care settings, or alternatively, of serving children and families having especially complex problems.

The explicit focus of our work is to learn directly from therapists who work with children and families on a daily basis in real-world mental health care settings. Through several different methods, our research is designed to understand the specific kinds of treatment techniques and strategies that therapists employ with children and families presenting for care, and to understand the elements of care that therapists think are most central to treatment outcomes.
