Screening and Triage for Developmental Problems in the Child Welfare System

Project Description

This study will use a one year cohort of 1,700 children between ages 3 months and 6 years who enter a child welfare receiving center to:

  1. Identify developmental delay in children with open child welfare cases who are placed in Polinsky receiving facility and compare rates of developmental delay in children with open cases placed in dependent care with rates of those children returned to their home following review.
  2. Further evaluate children with questionable and/or abnormal Denver tests using a standardized battery of speech /language and psychological tests and characterize specific types of delays see.
  3. Identify what types of intervention services children receive and determine which factors predict entry into public sector sponsored services for children with developmental delay.
